Very Warm Ski Wear Collection - All our ski wear is suitable for skiing and snow boarding in normal conditions found in the Alps. Kids Ski Jackets and Pants are designed to protect in conditions down to at least -10.
The key is layering to provide the extra warm but some kids ski jackets are rated extra warm due to the insulation used and are therefore suited to early season trips where temperatures can dip to -20
Very Warm Ski Wear Features:
Insulation: Look for substantial synthetic insulation (often 100–200g+ in jackets/pants). Synthetic is usually more practical than down for skiing because it stays insulating when damp.]
Waterproofing: Aim for a 10,000 mm+ waterproof rating for regular skiing; 15,000–20,000 mm is excellent for wet/snowy conditions.
Breathability: Around 10,000 g/m²/24h+ helps prevent children getting sweaty when they’re active.
Sealed seams: Ideally fully taped seams, makes a surprisingly big difference in wet snow.
Windproof outer: Particularly important for chairlifts and exposed slopes.
Hood: Helmet-compatible, adjustable hood that can be tightened around the face is ideal for exposed, cold resorts
Snow skirt: A jacket with a powder/snow skirt helps stop snow getting up underneath during falls.
Adjustable Cuffs: Adjustable cuffs that fit securely around ski gloves, ideally with thumb/hand gaiters stops biting winds
Ski Pants: High-waisted or bib-style ski pants are warmer and keep snow out better than low-waisted trousers.
Snow Gaiters: Internal ankle gaiters that fit snugly over ski boots stop snow getting in
Zips: Waterproof or well-covered zips with storm plackets on the main front zip make a huge difference
Room for layers: The fit should accommodate a merino/base layer + fleece or light mid-layer without being restrictive. Don't compensate for a poor outer layer by putting huge numbers of layers underneath.
One important distinction: “warm” and “waterproof” aren't the same thing. For children, a slightly less bulky garment with good insulation + high waterproofing + windproofing is much better because they can become cold surprisingly quickly once their clothing gets wet.
