“My First Ski Trip”

🎿 My First Ski Trip – By Freddie, Age 8

Hiya! I’m Freddie, I’m 8 years old, and I just went on my very first ski holiday – and let me tell you, it was EPIC.

We went to a place called La Plagne in France (yep, I had to practise saying that a few times!) and it was covered in more snow than I’ve ever seen in my whole life. It was like walking into a giant marshmallow.

❄️ Snow, Snow EVERYWHERE

The first thing I did when we arrived was face-plant into the snow. On purpose. It was soft, cold and made my nose go numb, but I loved it! My little sister made a snow angel. Mum made us wear, like, a million layers so we looked like marshmallow people too – but at least we were warm.

🎿 Ski School (a bit scary but also brilliant)

The next morning, I went to ski school. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know anyone and the boots felt weird, like robot feet. But then I met Leo from Manchester and we both kept falling over, so we became friends straight away.

Our instructor was called Pierre and he said I had “good balance” – even though I spent half the morning sliding around on my bum. I learned how to snowplough (that’s where your skis make a triangle to stop – it works… sometimes).

🏔️ Going Up the Mountain

By day three, we went up a proper mountain on a ski lift. It was so high my ears popped! At the top, the view looked like a Christmas card, all sparkly and white. I skied down a blue run and only fell over twice (okay, maybe four times… but who's counting?).

Mum and Dad were watching and cheering like I was in the Winter Olympics!

🍫 Best Hot Chocolate EVER

Skiing is hard work, so you get to have LOADS of snacks. We stopped at a café on the slopes and I had the biggest hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows – it was legendary. My sister got it all over her face, obviously.

🏅 Things I Learned:

  • Falling over is fine – everyone does it!
  • French people say “bonjour” a lot and it’s fun to say it back.
  • Snow in your gloves = very bad.
  • Ski goggles make you feel like a superhero.

I didn’t want to leave. I asked Mum if we could move to the mountains and become professional skiers. She laughed and said, “Maybe next year.” So I’ve already started packing…

If you’ve never been skiing before – go! Even if you fall over a hundred times (which I did), it’s the most fun you can have in the snow without turning into a snowman.
