Nov 12, 2020 · Gear Guides

For over the past 140 years, Helly Hansen has been developing and testing its technologies together with professionals living and working in some of the toughest environments.  You will often see the ski patrollers, mountain rescue and mountain professionals relying on Helly Hansen ski jackets and ski pants to keep them protected and warm in some of the most challenging conditions known to man.

At Little Skiers there are a huge number of skiing brands that we can choose from, we visit trade shows every year to select our collections, and Helly Hansen is one which we rate very highly due to their ski wear having high waterproof levels as standard, recco rescue system on many ski jackets and ski pants and the design of even the smallest details are well thought out and researched.

Read on to find out more about the technologies used in the ski wear that professionals know and trust.

Helly Tech

Helly Tech is the waterproof and breathable outer layer between you and the elements. Its unique membrane will keep water molecules out, while allowing sweat vapor to pass through – keeping you dry from the outside and comfortable on the inside.

What are Lifa base layers?

In 1970, Helly Hansen’s Lifa revolutionized the industry with the introduction of the first technical base layers. The fabric is based on a yarn technology that moves moisture away from the skin and transports it to the surface of the fabric, where it evaporates, leaving the wearer warm, dry and comfortable.  In 2006 Lifa was combined with merino wool to create some of the warmest ski thermals which perform brilliantly all day long on the ski slopes, keeping you warm yet dry.

Life Pocket

This is a special pocket engineered to preserve batteries of electronics life span.  Scientifically tested and proven by engineers to extend the battery life of mobile phones and cameras in cold environments through thermal resistant materials.  The Life Pocket stays 2 times warmer than a normal ski jacket pocket ensuring you have enough battery power at the end of the day to still take photos, post status updates or more importantly, call for help.  The Life Pocket can be found on the Helly Hansen Diamond Ski Jacket and the Cyclone Ski Jackets
