Who Are MOLO????
Our top of the range ski clothing is designed by Molo, a Danish company that prides itself on both design and technical features throughout the clothing range. Typical of Scandinavian design, their ranges are characterised by a simple minimalist design yet with useful features. But simple does not mean boring! No, the Danes appreciate a stylish look that sets them apart.
This is exactly what Molo have achieved with their MMP ski clothing range for children. They're not a big design factory that treats children's clothing as a secondary line. Kids come first and the clothing reflects that passion. Molo is unique and it's a mix of everyday durability and funky, colourful design that has a humorous slant. The clothes are full of fun, quirky details set within the context of the clean "raw" design traditions of Northern Europe. Scandinavians need and expect the ski wear they buy for their children to last the whole winter, not just a weeks holiday and as such the design and the durability of the ski jacket needs to fulfil this purpose, appealing to both the children's taste in outerwear and the parents desire for a suitable jacket to last from autumn through to spring showers. Molo launched this MMP collection last season (MMP stands for "molo multi-performance"). MMP from Molo is the optimal way to ensure your child's clothing suits the weather. It is all about dressing your child in 3 layers. Add layers to protect against the winter chill and take them off on warm days to avoid the moisture that comes from wearing too much clothing. The outwear season is extended because it can be used from the start of autumn until the end of spring.
The MMP (molo multi-performance) range is based on the Northern European way of layering clothing rather than relying on one padded jacket that does not breathe well and can be restrictive if made of cheap bulk padded insulation. You do get what you pay for in all things, and ski wear is no exception. The technology in ski clothing material has really come a long way over the last few years with breathable materials being the most important.
It is universally agreed that a good layering system is best way to keep warm on the slopes, whether you are 1 or 100yrs old, which simply means thermals, fleece layer and a good waterproof, weatherproof shell/jacket.
The OUTER LAYER must create a protective shield from the wind and weather. This layer has to resist wind, rain and cold but must also be breathable so that it is comfortable for the child. MMP's outer layer is made of a functional shell material. The strength of the shell material is that it is light, which means it is easy to move around in but it is still extremely wind and water resistant. It is water resistant to a massive 10,000mm with sealed seams and waterproof zippers.
The MIDDLE LAYER purpose is to retain warmth. It is an insulation layer that must release moisture without losing warmth. MMP's middle layer (both a top and bottom) is made of a lightweight, super soft fleece close to the skin and a soft smoother outer side..
The INNER LAYER if very cold should be a warm set of thermals which wick moisture away from the body.
But, however much I appreciate the technical features such as the waterproofing levels and the fact that all the seams are sealed and will be an investment, when my two children tried them on, Sam cooed at the mini compass on his zip and the reflective stars and Amelie loved the super soft middle layer with thumb holes in the sleeves! Clever features like that keep everyone happy.
